Stories and Themes 2012

I've been really interested in and inspired by men's fashion lately. Sometimes I find it more interesting than women's. So, this week I created a couple storyboards of what I think will be upcoming trends for menswear in 2012.

A nautical vibe is popular in many spring lines right now and red is definitely the color of the moment. Navy, light blue, and neutral colors are incorporated to balance the bright red. Tailored suits featuring cropped or cuffed pants will be trendy along with knit tops paired with shorts for a more casual look. Also, no socks allowed! Louis Vuitton, Michael Bastian, and Lanvin were some of my favorite menswear lines for Spring 2012.

Later this year, we'll see men sporting ensembles in the greyscale with a touch of cooler colors to not be so monochromatic. Tailored jackets and pants with a trouser leg will be popular for the office while cable and heavy knit sweaters can be worn on the weekends and after work. Guys will need a nice pair of boots to tuck their pants in and a cool hat to go along with the weekend look. John VarvatosSimon Spurr, and Michael Bastian (again) were my favorite menswear lines for Fall/Winter 2012.

I would love to hear what everybody thinks about my storyboards. Is there enough content, too much? What could I add or get rid of to enhance my themes? What do you think of the trends I noticed and the   rest of the collections I linked?

  1. Wow! I love both your boards! They are so appealing to the eye! I think I like Cool Composure the best though, it's so modern and well put together. I think a little more content would be good for surf and stride...maybe some more non fashion images? Awesome job though!

  2. I think the colored men's suits are so fresh for spring. The apricot pink suit in your first board is beautiful.

  6. Your second board is definitely my favorite. There's nothing better than a man in a well tailor suits in shades of grey, in my opinion. I also love the accessory choices

  7. I am personally more partial to the Cool Composure board. I love the mixture of greys and charcoals for tailored suiting. Boots are definitely hot for menswear right now. Plus, the mixture of knits and tailored attire is ingenious.

  12. I like your Surf and Stride board a lot. The colors are an interesting mix of classic and fun pastels. The trend is so Michael Kors and American Sportswear themed. And they definitely show your personal aesthetics as a designer.

  13. i love the colors in the first board... just not a fan of men in shorts. very trendy. Same with the second board trendy but very masculine. i agree with the not so monochramatic maybe just an accessory needed on the bottom right outfit to add a pop of something. very nice!

  14. it's refreshing to see someone doing menswear. I prefer the Surf and Stride board because it conveys the right kind of playfulness in menswear that still keeps in classy and wearable. Wish I could put my bf in a red suit.
